Free, private, right in your browser.
Shrink a PDF to a size limit like 100KB, for application portals and upload forms that cap the file. The images inside get smaller, while text and links stay exactly as they are. Free, open source, and your file stays on your device.

Turn on airplane mode and give it a try. It still works.
How it worksReduce the file size of your PDFs, right in your browser. No upload, no server. Most of a PDF's weight is usually its images, so that is what gets smaller: photos and scans are recompressed in place, and text, drawings and links stay sharp and selectable. A PDF made only of text and drawings has nothing to shrink this way, and the tool says so before you start. If a file can't get any smaller, you keep your original and the tool tells you. For a scan that has to go smaller still, you can turn the pages into pictures, which makes the text unselectable and the links stop working.
Shrink PDFs to a target like 100KB for strict portal limits as many times as you need, with no watermark or daily cap. Because compression runs on your device, there's nothing to upload and no server cost to pass on to you.
It's open source under the MIT license, so anyone can read the code, fork it on GitHub, or share it. Simple PDF tools should be free for everyone.
Yes, you can set 100KB as the target for free. Choose Exact size and select the 100 KB shortcut. The tool tries to get at or below the limit, not exactly 100KB. A long or detailed PDF may not fit; check the actual output size and readability before uploading it elsewhere.
If the file is already under the target, it is kept unchanged. Otherwise the tool recompresses the images inside it, stepping down from the best quality until a step fits, then fine-tuning between that step and the one above it to keep the sharpest result that still fits. Text and links are not touched. If no step fits, you get the smallest result and a note saying the target was missed; turning the pages into pictures can go smaller still, at the cost of selectable text. Everything happens in your browser.
No. Nothing is uploaded. Compression runs on your device, in your browser, and your file, whether it is a tax record, a scanned ID, or a contract, never leaves it. There is no processing server. For offline use, install PDkef and let its required assets load while connected.
Smallest, Balanced and Sharpest recompress only the images. Smallest scales each image to at most 1000 pixels on its long side at JPEG quality 40, Balanced to 1600 pixels at quality 60, and Sharpest to 2400 pixels at quality 80. Text and drawings are the same at every level. The saving depends on how much of the file is images, so a PDF that is mostly text may not get smaller. Exact size steps down through these, and further when it needs to, until the file fits.
No. Compressing recompresses only the images, so text stays selectable and searchable, and links keep working. The one exception is the Turn pages into pictures switch, which you turn on yourself: it makes each page an image, so the result loses selectable text and links. Keep the original if you need them.
No artificial limit - no daily task cap, no watermark, no paywall. Most online compressors impose limits because server processing costs them money. This tool runs entirely on your device, so the only constraint is your device's available memory.
Yes. The 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, and 1 MB quick-picks are shortcuts. Enter your own limit in the KB field, then check whether the downloaded result met it. A target is not a guarantee that every PDF can fit while remaining readable.
This tool changes file size, not page dimensions. Exact size shrinks how many bytes the file takes up on disk. It does not change the paper size or page dimensions, and every page keeps its original width and height. If you need to change the page size itself, this is not that tool.
Yes. Choose Exact size, pick or enter a limit like 100KB, and the tool shrinks the images inside the PDF to get at or below it, keeping text and links as they are. If the images alone can't get the file under the limit, it says so and shows the smallest size it reached.
Yes. Tap Choose file and pick Google Drive in your device's file picker (on iPhone or iPad, tap Browse), or, on a computer, right-click the PDF in Drive, choose Open with, then PDkef. Either way the PDF goes from Drive to your device and nowhere else.
Every one of these runs on your device, free, with nothing uploaded.
